Koppen: "Het gewicht van de eenzaamheid"

"Vorige week nog kreeg ik telefoon van een vrouw die sinds november niet meer buiten was geweest. De overheid moet godverdomme beseffen dat eenzaamheid een echt probleem is."

Steffen Van Wymeersch, zorgregisseur in Brussel, gaat bij ouderen langs om hen in contact te brengen met de diensten die ze nodig hebben. Maar achter die praktische noden schuilt een veel dieper probleem: dat van de eenzaamheid. Volgens een studie van de Koning Boudewijnstichting zijn tegen 2020 meer dan 1 miljoen ouderen eenzaam in ons land.

Maar door de staatshervorming en besparingen dreigen projecten als dat van de zorgregisseurs te verdwijnen. "Dat zou een ramp zijn," zegt Rosetta (80) in haar krappe woonkamer in één van de vele sociale woonblokken in de hoofdstad. "Als ik eender welk probleem heb en ik bel Steffen, dat staat hij hier. Zelf heb ik geen familie meer".
